Loyd & Roy's Hanapepe Zoo

Animals give so much love and ask for so little in return. Our home has been nicknamed the "Hanapepe Zoo" because of our love of animals. The population of our home zoo goes up and down, especially the cat population. At one time we had six cats, but unfortunately, they have a nasty habit of ending up squashed on the road. After Snagglepuss passed away, we had not intended on having anymore cats, but some strays showed looking hungry and of course we fed them! While we do not "officially" have a cat, there are about six that hang out around our house. We have managed to catch five of them and have them fixed. We are still working on the sixth. Here are a few pictures of just some of our animal family.
chichiChi Chi
Chi Chi is our Taco Bell dog (With those ears, maybe we should have called her Dumbo!). She is a smooth-coat Chihuahua. Chi Chi was born March 8, 1997. She is a bundle of energy, running all around and jumping up on all the furniture. She's queen of the house and knows it!

Puss Puss

Puss Puss is our only in-the-house cat. She was a kitten from one of stray cats that have made our yard their home. Puss Puss was tiny and skinny and we weren't sure she was going to suvive, but with a little tender loving and care, she has turned into an enormous sized cat who rules the house. Her and Chi Chi run and play and chase each other and as in the photo, sometimes nap together.

Max & Lopaka

Max is our Blue & Gold Macaw. He is about 10 years old. Macaws live to be about 80, so we will probably have to will him out to someone! Max can be a bit noisy sometimes. Most of the day he is fairly quiet, but he does like to announce the sunrise and sunset.

Lopaka is one of our African Grays. He is a Congo type. Our other African Gray is a Timneh. The Congos are a bit larger than the Timnehs. Also, the Congos tail feathers are a brighter red.

African Greys are great talkers. Lopaka's cage is in our dining room. He picks up all sorts of words and sounds. He barks just like Nina and rings like the telephone. Many times we've went to answer the phone only to find it was Lopaka!

And other birds...

We are often asked just how many birds we have. Our standard answer is 15. In reality, we don't actually know exactly how many we have. Besides the ones pictured here, we have an Amazon, another African Gray (the Timneh), a Cockatoo, a Conure, a hand-fed Cockatiel in the house, and a few more Cockatiels outside in the aviary.

And fish...

We also have two outdoor ponds. The 300 gallon pond in our back lanai has Japenese Koi. We have a smaller pond in the front yard with guppies and black mollies. And we also have a various aquariums other fish, including angel fish, fighting fish, and others that only Roy can name. So, the zoo is always growing!

And More Cats...

One day a stray cat showed up at our house. A little while later, she had four kittens. And from somewhere, two stray kittens appeared and the mother cat nursed them also. Unfortunately, one kitten did not survive. The others are are healthy and strong. While we try to get them "fixed", some are hard to catch. At this point our cat population seems to vary somewhere between 12 to 15.

These are some of the animals we have owned who have passed away. They brought so much love, joy and happiness into our lives and asked for so little in return. The above left photo is Bullet. Bullet was a Weimaraner. He was a nice grey color with big blue eyes (yes, blue!). The other two are both long hair Chihuahuas, respectfully named Nina One and Nina Two.
